Any piece of jewellery from either of these South African designers is a treasure. The difficulty I find is choosing just one and not wanting to sell a kidney for the whole collection.
I am often asked “Catherine, does everything need to be beautiful?” and my answer is, “always. I often take a trip to Stellenbosch to visit my family on the farm and on one of these visits I stopped off at Ou Meul en route in Simondium for good coffee and a collection of my nephew’s favourite pasteis de nata. As I walked around the building sipping my coffee, I discovered the most beautiful little nursery and a gift shop full of one-off pots. I now always stop off and collect a plant in the perfect pot. It has become my gift of choice.
