This cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc has a sumptuous entry tied to an enduring length. In The Cellar
This wine is made up of a series of Sauvignon Blanc building blocks from different sites on Steenberg – harvested at different ripeness levels. Each block yields unique characteristics ranging from flinty, grassy, green pepper to gooseberry and ripe tropical flavours. The grapes were all hand-harvested in the cool, early mornings, starting at 6AM, to retain the delicate flavours. Skin maceration occurred after crushing from 8–24 hours at 10°C. The juice settled overnight, after which it was racked off clean, inoculated with yeast and allowed to ferment for up to 30 days at temperatures between 11°C – 15°C. Post fermentation; the wine lay on its fine lees for 60 – 90 days until blending, stabilising and bottling starting in mid-June 2021.

Subtle vanilla oak spice is carried through from the nose to the palate where it meets flavours of quince and candied apple. It is complemented by a bright, clean structure and long finish, which in turn is tempered by a lifting acidity and chalky minerality.

Your same favourite wine with new name and a fresh new look! We have released the new packaging of Steenberg Barrel Fermented Sauvignon Blanc featuring an elegant, contemporary aesthetic.
Both terroir and treatment are immediately evident in the glass. Five spice, elderflower, stone fruit and cape gooseberry marry on both the nose and palate. Acidity and spice form the backbone, dominating on the palate, while a creamy texture rounds out the overall mouthfeel. The textured yet juicy palate shows quince, nasturtium and lime. A lingering herbaceous and mineral finish completes the experience. This wine will be enhanced by a food pairing such as shellfish, or a Thai curry accented by ginger and lemongrass. Drink now, but wait five to seven years for a truly evolved experience.

Our 2020 Semillon is a beautiful pale gold colour. Aromas of apricot, cardamom and orange blossom greet you upon first inspection. Quince, hay bale and roasted almond complete the sensation on the palate. Poised, weighted fruit concentrates the mid-palate, after which the wine broadens out with a rich, almost waxy texture and bright acidity. A citrus and floral spice lingers on the palate long after the last drop. This Semillon will continue to evolve in complexity and richness with age.

The Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc 2020 is a pure expression of the Steenberg terroir and shows notes of nettle, gunflint, elderflower and fynbos on the nose, while the palate supports the aromas with fresh lemon zest and subtle hints of stone fruit and asparagus. A mouth-watering acidity accompanies a full and long finish achieved with extended lees contact in tank. This is a wonderful food wine and will reward cellaring of between 10 – 20 years.
