The 2021 Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc, pale-straw in colour with an ever so slight green hue, hypnotises with a seductive bouquet showing fresh cape gooseberry, nettle, lime, summer melon, blackcurrant and white blossom. This cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc has a sumptuous entry tied to an enduring length. The lifting acidity maintains a lively flavour on the palate with grapefruit zest and elderflower while maintaining a distinctive mineral core derived from the Steenberg terroir. All the elements of this wine will enable it to bottle age well over the next 2-5 years.

This wine is made up of a series of Sauvignon Blanc building blocks from different sites on Steenberg – harvested at different ripeness levels. Each block yields unique characteristics ranging from flinty, grassy, green pepper to gooseberry and ripe tropical flavours. The grapes were all hand-harvested in the cool, early mornings, starting at 6AM, to retain the delicate flavours. Skin maceration occurred after crushing from 8–24 hours at 10°C. The juice settled overnight, after which it was racked off clean, inoculated with yeast and allowed to ferment for up to 30 days at temperatures between 11°C – 15°C. Post fermentation; the wine lay on its fine lees for 60 – 90 days until blending, stabilising and bottling starting in mid-June 2021.

Our 2019 Semillon is a beautiful pale gold colour. Aromas of lime, capsicum and apricot pith greet you upon first inspection. Quince, citrus and roasted almond complete the sensation on the palate. Poised fruit concentrates the mid-palate, after which the wine broadens out with a rich, almost waxy texture and bright acidity. A citrus and floral spice lingers on the palate long after the last drop. This Semillon will continue to evolve in complexity and richness with age.

The Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc 2020 is a pure expression of the Steenberg terroir and shows notes of nettle, gunflint, elderflower and fynbos on the nose, while the palate supports the aromas with fresh lemon zest and subtle hints of stone fruit and asparagus. A mouth-watering acidity accompanies a full and long finish achieved with extended lees contact in tank. This is a wonderful food wine and will reward cellaring of between 10 – 20 years.

Your same favourite wine with a fresh new look! We have released the new packaging of Steenberg Rattlesnake Sauvignon Blanc featuring an elegant, contemporary aesthetic.
Both terroir and treatment are immediately evident in the glass. White blossom, elderflower, fresh asparagus and cape gooseberry marry on both the nose and palate. Acidity and spice form the backbone, dominating on the palate, while a creamy texture rounds out the overall mouthfeel. The palate shows capsicum, nasturtium and lime. A lingering mineral finish completes the experience.
This wine will be enhanced by a food pairing such as shellfish, a Thai curry accented by ginger and lemon grass, a savoury tart tatin or grilled calamari.
Although beautifully balanced from date of release, this wine is still developing. Drink now, but wait five to seven years for a truly evolved experience.

Our 2020 Sphynx Chardonnay shows upfront and intense aromas of limestone, orange blossom, butterscotch and crème brûlée on the nose. Subtle vanilla oak spice is carried through from the nose to the palate where it meets flavours of pear and candied apple. It is complemented by a silky, elegant structure and creamy texture, which in turn is tempered by a clean acidity and chalky minerality.
The wine is ready to enjoy now, but will reward patience and age gracefully for the next 2- 5 years.
